Roleplay
Though many come to Terris wanting to kill everything in sight, they will need to develop good roleplay habits in order to have a happy existence in the realm. There are several things you can do to help them develop their persona.

First of all, try to stay in character with them. Do not tell them about your other pesonas as alters. If you discuss them refer to them in the third person. Don't shout about the latest episode of Southpark. If you and your student eventually become friends and wish to chat OOC that is fine, but in your duty as a mentor, remain ic as much as possible. Be sure that they know abou the OOC Chats channel.

Help your student create a brief description for themself by using the description1 and description2 . Tell them the description may be about their physical appearance or their inner attributes.

Please use emotes and gestures to convey emotions and teach them to do the same. Encourage them to develop nuances and traits unique to their character. Gigyas being the 'Squirrel Guru' and Gorlak not being able to pronounce words are excellent examples of roleplay. The little things you do on a day to day basis will make a huge difference in their lives.

Another way to encourage roleplay is to help them develop a character history. This can be done by chatting with them or they can even write a story. Both methods make them think of themselves as a "person" and grow accordingly. Here are several simple questions to ask: Who are your parents?, Where did you grow up?, Do you have siblings?, What was your early childlife like?, Why did you become a Ranger?. The amount of questions to ask are endless. Be prepared to answer the same questions. The student will often want to obtain more information about you and your life.

Mentors Handbook - Mapping

It is a wonderful idea to follow your student and have them help map the realm by offering suggestions. It is always better to have them lead when you travel together. Many times the student will feel embarrassed or nervous when leading. Assure them they are doing a good job and that mapping and walking is never easy, though often rewarding. If you have an embarrassing memory of a mapping or walking incident of your own, please share it.

Mentors Handbook - Technical Information

You will frequently be asked many technical questions. If you do not have the answer, please seek out another mentor or Guild Officer. It is recommended that all Mentors autolog their Terris session. Logs are often necessary if a problem arises or if you see a person violating a Guild or realm policy.

How do I autolog?
While using Terris Wizard, move your cursor up to the File window and double click on Autolog. A message should flash on your screen that the autolog was successfully opened. Everytime you log onto Terris the message will flash with the credits.

How do I read something I have logged?
There is a menu selection in the FILE menu of the wizard that will allow you to open a copy of a log file in notepad.

How often do I need to clean up my log?
Depending on the amount of time you spend in the realm, you will need to delete or save as new at least once a week. This can be done through your File Manager located under Main on windows.

On Communication:
(Provided compliments of Alantha, compiled with help from Damsie & Weya)

TELLS are a way of communicating with others that are currently in the lands. To use this method of communication, you would need to type TELL (name) (message). For example if you wanted to send a tell to Twiggie, you would type TELL Twiggie hello!

SHOUTS can be used so all that are listening to them can hear. You would use this method when looking for an enchanter, hardner and so on. To do this, you would type SHOUT (Message). You will also need to tag yer shouts with yer name because only Legends have the privilage of seeing who is shouting. For example, SHOUT I am seeking the assistance of an enchanter. Can use SH also. You can SETSHOUTS to hear only people over a certain level if you choose.

TAGS are just including yer name in yer shouts, gshouts and tshouts. Some have fancy tags full of colors and designs, others prefer the simpler tag. It really helps iffen ye tag yer gshouts so someone can respond to ye by tells, especially if you have detailed questions.

GSHOUTs are used the same way as shouts, but only guild members would be able to hear yer shout. Please refrain from using gshouts to hold personal disagreements, or asking one person for help, etc. that twould better be suited for tells. GSH Greetings Rangers!

TSHOUTs are used the same way as shouts and gshouts, but only temple members will be able to see yer shout.

CHAT is a way of communicating with all the lands on issues that might not be appropriate for Shouts, such as a technical question about AOL, or sharing other OOC information.

MESSAGEs are used when you want to send someone a message. This method works if they are away from the lands, or in the lands. You would do so by typing MESSAGE (name). For example, MESSAGE Snazzle Hey, I forgot to return yer shoes. There is no need to tag this, because the header is yer full name and the date. To check yer messages, you would type MESSAGES. This will allow you to see all the message you have been sent while ye were away from the lands. By typing DELETE ALL, you will clear yer messages, and only see the new ones, or you can just select one to delete with DELETE 3, then the number 3 message would be deleted.

GTELL will allow only those in yer group to see yer message. If you are following someone, and doan want anyone else to see yer comments, type GTELL (message). For example, say you are traveling with 3 persons and you want to tell them something, but are not the only people in the room, ye can type GTELL I wanna go to church. They will see it, but no one else outside yer group will.

WHISPER allows you to whisper a message to someone in the same room as you. Noone else will see this message. To use this, Type WHISPER (NAME) (MESSAGE). For example, WHISPER Halanthis Have you been drinkin'?

WISH allows ye to communicate with any immys or heros online. These are meant to be used when ye have a problem that cannae be resolved through asking regular mortals. One example would be iffen ye are having trouble with another player seriously harrassing ye. Then ye would type WISH I need assistance because of player harrassing me by.... Questions concerning registration problems, etc are usually handled by wishes as well. Just doan abuse the command. Immys and heros are wonderful help but often get flooded with wishes. If you have any doubt whether yer problem is better handled by a wish or another method, ask someone like a Mentor or Guild Officer . Do try to be patient, it may be a few minutes for a response.

EMOTES are ways of communicating through verbal and a host of non-verbal means. There are files ye can download under the INFO section of Terris and "help emotes" will give ye lists of many of these emotes from simply smiling to rolling on the floor laughing And ye can also create yer own by typing EM (and the action ye wish to do), EMS, YEM, or YEMS. An example would be typing EM offers her boots to Wynd to buff which would read to others as "Damsie offers her boots to Wynd to buff". Please do not use emotes to control the actions of others. Example: Em laughs as So_n_so licks her boots. This is frowned on and could be considered harrassment. Also, please doan repeat yer action or words over and over. This is called SCROLLING and tis very annoying when done to others who doan wish to see it. There is some excellent All of these methods can be used when communicating with another mortal or immortal in the lands. All public forms of communication (say, shout, gshout, tshout) should be kept IC (in character). Tells, whispers, chat and gtells are best used for any personal or OOC (out of character) comments.
