When you receive your first student, they will inevitably ask you what skills they should learn. This is a very important and difficult question because it will affect how they survive and grow in the world around them. As a first step, ask them how they want to develop. Do they want to be a fighter? Do they want trade skills? Do they want to be a healer? Or do they want to simply be well-rounded? Their answer will help you recommend which skills and spells to learn. If it helps, you may ask them to send you a copy of their skills. This will show you how they have trained thus far.

How do you get a copy of their skills? Copy and paste it in an e-mail and send it to you. If they are using Wizard, ask them to turn off the "skills and spells pop-ups" option. This method can save you and your student a great deal of time.

What skills should I recommend? There are so many skills to learn in the Guild it is hard to pick just the right ones. Missile or One-Handed Weapons, Physical Training, Awareness, Naturalism Spell Use, Warcraft and Called Shot are a great starting point. Below is a list of skills and information about them.

Offensive Skills:

1) Missile Weapons or One-Handed Weapons: The more proficient one is with this skill the quicker the recovery time between hits. By decreasing the amount of time a student is off balance, they increase the amount of damage they do and the likelihood they will kill the monster before it kills them... Unless they are not of the Ranger class always recommend missile weapons over one-handed because the Ranger class gets bonuses with bows and not with swords. This skill is highly recommended for the start.

2) Called Shot: This increases the amount of damage inflicted upon a monster. Please remember to tell your student, the skill ONLY works when they use the aim command. Using the attack command will not give them the benefits of the skill.

3) Warcraft: This skill decreases the amount of damage the monster absorbs, which means quicker kills. Many students delay learning this skill because the initial lesson is 10bps. Be sure to remind them that the cost for warcraft decreases after the first lesson.

4) Multiple Attacks: This skill increases the likelihood that you will get two hits when you attack. It is not a guarantee of a double hit even at maximum but it does help.

5) Stunning Blow: The higher your skill the more likely it is that you will stun a monster and the longer you will stun it. With stunning blow at superhuman it is possible to stun a creature for 37 seconds. Though the help file indicates this skill does not work with bows, it most certainly does!! This skill should not be learned off of others. After they complete their training at the monk's guild, they should wait until they become a legend for more training.

6) Poison: This skill will allow your student to poison a weapon and will allow them to inflict more damage to monsters not resistent to poison.

Defensive Skills:

1) Dodging: This skill allows a student to avoid being hit. It increases their defense stat. However, dodging does NOT work if you are fighting in berserker mode which most Rangers do.

2) Resilience: This skill decreases the likelihood of being hit and decreases the damage you take from elentmental spells like fire, cold, poison, electricity.

3) Toughness: This skill increases your armour class, thereby making you absorb more damage and live longer. It is a very helpful skill to have especially if you are too weak to wear many types of armour.

Miscellaneous Skills:

1) Physical Training: This skill is very important!! This skill increases the amount of hps you gain every time you level. Since one stops earning hps at level 50, it is important to learn this skill early.

2) Spiritual Karma: The benefits of spiritual karma are two-fold. Not only does it increase the amount of sps you gain each level but it shortens the recovery time in regaining your sps back, which is extremely important if you rezz.

3) Awareness: This increases your chance of finding hidden items and exits when searching and examining. It is impossible to have too much awareness.

4) Naturalistic Spell Use: If the student is planning on learning any naturalism spells this skill is a MUST have. The higher this skill the better a student will heal, cure poison, shield, accurate or strength themselves. It makes every naturalism spell stronger when they cast it. Also, if they use a ring of the demon to invigorate their spell points, they will invigorate more sps the higher they have this skill.

5) Arcana: This skill is a trade. It will allow a student to make rings (not enchant them) and runes to help protect them. The items made can also be sold for a profit. At the level of adequate they will no longer destroy items when mixing.

6) Weaponsmithing: This skill is also a trade. Learning this skill allows a student to forge themselves a Ranger Bow and to forge armour for them and others. (anyone know how high you need the skill to not destroy items?)

7) Concentration: Training in this skill will provide increased resistance to all forms of sleep spells. This skill is available only to members of the Rangers Guild.

Spells:

Since the Ranger's Guild doesn't teach MSU or SSU, only NSU spells are covered below. If a student learns these spells they should also learn NSU to increase the effectiveness of the spell. Also the more you learn a spell, the shorter the cast time and the stronger the spell.

Antidote: This spell cures poison.

Body Restore: This spell cures all hit points. The spell is effective at level apprentice. To learn this spell you must have learned 3 heals and 3 regenerates.

Dragon Shards: This spell envelops your body in a shield, increasing your defense. This spell will increase your defense even while fighting in berserk mode. To learn this spell you must learn 3 light shards and 3 demon shards.

Magic Eye: This spell increases your chances of hitting your target. It is extremely important for monsters with a high level of dodging. Magic Eye requires 3 lessons of Eagle Eye and 3 lessons of Tiger Eye.

Dragon Strength: This spell increases your strength, increasing the damage you do to opponents. This spell requires 3 lessons of ogre strength and 3 lessons giant strength.

Ressurection: This spell allows you to restore life to a dead body with the use of a bronze, silver or gold rune. It uses 164 sps to cast. You need to know the spell to Outstanding or you will cause experience loss to the person you rezz. To learn this spell, you must have 3 light shards, 3 demon shards, 3 dragon shards and 3 raise dead. It is a costly spell to learn so please be sure you want the ability to rezz before learning it.
