As a mentor you set the example for Rangers to follow. It is important to always maintain good form by being helpful, patient and understanding. There will be students who will test your patience and provoke you. If you find yourself having difficulty maintaining a level head ask another to step in and assist you.
I hear someone not obeying the Guild policy on rezzes, what should I do? If they tagged their name, please address them in tells. It is always best to keep conversations out of the shouts and in tells so the student doesn't feel pressured or threatened. Explain to them our Guild policy on rezzing. The student may gshout twice for a rezz, but the shout must be in character. Tell them to have fun and be creative. One example Scyllz used the other day was "Scyllz say hi to giant. Giant's foot say hi to Scyllz' head! Ouchies!" Also tell them they should pay for the cost of the rune which is 200g if they are below level 11, 600g if they are below level 21 and 1500g if they are level 21 or higher. Also, sending tells to people in the Guild or on the Healer's List is usually a better way to obtain a rezz. Many people don't pull corpses off of shouts, assuming another will do it. The more polite and personal the request, the greater chance they will obtain one. My student has asked me to teach them a skill, should I? Unless it is a skill not taught by the Guild, we shouldn't be teaching new Rangers. While young, many feel they have build points to spare and will waste them. It is important to remind them they will need the build points later in life and it is not necessary to train all at once. If the student indicates they are short on gold as the reason they wish to train with you, please remind them that selling crossbows, swords and gems obtained from the Kobold Keep or the Keep north of Devardec is a good way to earn gold for training. If the reason the student wishes to learn from you because they have learned all they can for their experience, please suggest other skills they should learn that are equally important. Physical Training, Warcraft, Called Shot, Missile Weapons and Awareness should keep your student busy until they reach the next portal. Our portals are amazingly low, so there is no reason to teach a student a skill. How do I handle a student who is rude or demanding? First of all, remain calm! Explain to your student that Rangers are respectful and self-sufficient. Your role as mentor is to help answer questions and advise them on becoming a responsible, respectful, self-sufficient Ranger. Ask them to type Help Policy to learn more about an individual's role in the realm. Your job does not involve handing out gold, items or quest information. You are not there to lead them to places to hunt and you will not accept being treated poorly. If your student continues to harass you or others, please inform a guild officer immediately. What if I see a Ranger cheating? Whether someone is item swapping, sharing quest information or stealing please inform them this behavior is not acceptable as it violates both Terris and Guild policies. Also inform a Guild Officer. If you have a log please send it to the GM, so that any necessary sanctions can be handed out. How do I help monitor shouts? If you see a student or young Ranger with a question or problem on the shouts, please give them the assistance they require via a tell, if they have tagged their shouts. Many Rangers will have questions that you can easily answer with a quick tell. As a mentor, you are not limited to just your own students. You are expected to help all people, including non-Rangers. If you see a disturbance in the shouts, inform a Guild Officer. Amazingly enough, Guild Officers often miss shouts of they are hunting, walking or swamped with tells. The delay in them reading a guildshout could mean a delay in the problem being resolved. Please do whatever you can to keep Guild problems to a minimum. |
