The Story of Alyssandra

It had been a long journey to get to the Guild. Inexperienced and naive, Alyssandra was unsure what to expect. Though she had heard great tales of the Rangers of Terris from he father, she became more nervous as the realisation hit her that the venture to the Guild was over as she stood within the roots. But a new adventure was to begin-her life as a Ranger.
As a Wood-elf, she had explored the forests and land her whole life, picking wild flowers as she went and taking them home to her older brother Doranthe, who explained in detail what each one was called and its properties. At 14, her younger sister Yvanna had been born, shotly after her father's disappearance along with Doranthe. Living far from other Wood-elves, Alyssandra had no choice but to help her mother through the labour. Bringing clothes and fresh water from the blessed river nearby, she returned back to the house of logs and vines to find her mother in such pain. At that moment, her heart broke, knowing her father should have been there to witness Yvanna's birth, but he and Doranthe had been sent on a quest from which they had not returned.
Stroking her mother's brow and calming her in a soothing elvish voice, Alyssandra beamed with pride and love as Yvanna was brought into the world. She wrapped the beautiful baby in the silk cloths and gently bathed her in the blessed water. This day was the start of a close relationship with her younger sister. Helping with her birth had created a seemingly unbreakable bond between them, noone would come between them. However, at 18, she decided suddenly it was time to leave, to do what her father had described in his tales. She had found them fascinating, as she sat in between the grand oak trees of her home forest, picking daisies and sipping on chilled elderflower wine. Her father captivated her, the stories being brought further to life by Doranthe, who as always held the limelight. She laughed happily as he pulled faces and mimed the actions to her father's stories. With her father and brother she had always been carefree, ywt with her mother she was obedient and a good daughter, doing her chores with forced enthusiasm and care.
As she wrung the sweat from her clammy hands, standing still within the dark roots, she remembered waving excitedly to Doranthe and her father, unknowing she was not to see them again. Her father had turned back quickly and given her that lovable wink. He placed in her palm a Token of True Love inscribed "Take Care and remeber your promise". She laughed but stifled a cry, her promise meant looking after her mother and sister. She waved goodbye. They would return, wouldnt they?, she remembered thinking sadly. They hadn't though and now here she was, she had broken her promise to her father. Her heart had grown colder over the years without her best friend and brother Doranthe and her beloved father. She had felt lonely for too long, even with Yvanna close by. Alyssandra felt she had let her mother down and secretly she believed her mother blamed her for her father leaving. Her mother, Trinia, had never enjoyed listening to the stories her father told, they were nonsense and the family should concentrate on their real lives. She believed by making her father tell such stories, Alyssandra had encouraged him to leave and embark on such journeys, that he was not content on his life in the woods with his family.
One day, the tension had finally broken both women down. Alyssandra sorted her things hurriedly into her backpack, kissed her sleeping sister's forehead and left, shedding a single tear for her home and her family. But she was to enter a new family and she longed to be accepted.
So, here she was, facing the entrance to the Ranger's Guild and the entrance to a new life.
