The Story of Fingolphin
"Hail and well met."
I am Fingolphin a half Elf. I come from the distant north where I have lived with my mothers people. They are elves who live in the forests of the mountains, those green bands beneath the permanent snow. Whilst they are forest people they love the lonely high mountain tops and rarely stray far from them.
They speak a variant of the Elvish spoken here and my name, is the nearest I could get in common to my real name, which means Forest Star. For I am valued as a finder of ways by my mothers people.
My father, a human and a warrior, met my mother whilst hunting Ice Trolls who had ambushed a merchant wagon train bringing goods, rare ore and animal skins, down to Devardec. One look was enough for them to fall in love and after hunting down the Ice Trolls, he said goodbye to his kinsmen and married my mother, choosing to stay with her and her people, for she could not bear to be parted from the mountains she loves so much.
He rarely saw his kinsmen again, going seldomly back to his own village, a trading point on the mighty river of the north. Yet on one of those few occasions, when I was 10 years old, the village was attacked by a party of Trolls and Orcs, and most of the village were killed. Some few survived and escaped by canoe. My mothers people followed them down river but it was many months since the attack had happened, and so despite their tracking skills they lost the trail somewhere on the Myst.
This is why I have made the long journey south to your climes, leaving my mother and my brother in our village. I am in search of my kinsmen and if any ranger should meet, or hear of, humans bearing the mark of the Turtle then please let me know. It would warm my heart to meet with my fathers people and know that I and my brother are not the last to bear the mark.
I am a stranger in your wood, and in this land, and thank you all for your hearty welcome and your companionship on the trail. If ever you stray into the far north please visit my mothers people and bring news of me to her. Her people have great magic allowing them to see many far things but she will be very glad to meet any who have shared the hunt with me. You will be made very welcome and she will gladly show you the ways of the mountain. Though she does not enjoy the hunt as much since my father died.
My exterior is borne of the cold mountains but you will find me a true and loyal friend willing to share hardships and battles with my new companions.
